Ohne Worte (without words)
Vincent Trasov
May 14th - June 17th, 2018
Early paintings by Berlin-based, septuagenarian, Vincent Trasov, displays mark marking of the artist that became a visual vocabulary leading him to contemporary, narrative-laden, abstract collages that, apart from the dramatic difference in process and complex narrative, demonstrate a common language. Abstract painting and collage from the early eighties laid groundwork for the artist to embark on groundbreaking chemical paintings. Video projections contextualize the time, place and artist’s sensitivities.
Vincent Trasov was born in Edmonton and is a painter, video and performance artist. In 1969, Trasov founded Image Bank with Michael Morris, a method for personal exchange of information amongst artists. He has made videotapes since 1971 and in 1973 was co-founder and co-director of Western Front Society, Vancouver, a center for the production and presentation of new art activity. In 1981 he was invited with Morris as a guest of Berliner Kunstlerprogramm, DAAD to Berlin. In 1991, he and Morris founded the Morris/Trasov Archive, currently housed at Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver, to research contemporary art and communication. Trasov has had numerous international exhibitions including upcoming exhibitions at Kunstverein Amsterdam, Fall 2018 and Kunst Werke Berlin, Fall, 2019, and is represented in public and private collections in both Europe and North America.
